About Pike County

Pike County is located in the far eastern tip of Kentucky, bordering both West Virginia and Virginia. The county seat is Pikeville, a city of roughly 7,000 residents. Bar-related violence and firearms incidents, while not everyday occurrences, pose ongoing safety concerns in the area β€” particularly during late-night hours. The possession of a loaded firearm in an establishment serving alcohol is a separate criminal offense under Kentucky law, reflecting the heightened danger of mixing firearms with alcohol-fueled environments.
